Undergraduate Student Field Placement Manual(Adobe Acrobat Format)Field practicum experiences are required of all undergraduate students in their final year at Ohio University.This provides students with experience, under supervision, in a local human service agency.Practicums are available in a variety of settings, including child welfare agencies, juvenile courts, hospitals, mental health centers, residential treatment programs, correctional facilities, and senior centers.

SSWA is open to all social work majors and others interested insocial issues. SSWA promotes community service on campus and in theregion. The organization has regular meetings which are announced inclasses and posted on the bulletin board by 203 Morton Hall.
The purpose of Phi Alpha Honor Society are to provide a closerbond among students of social work and promote high academicstandards in social work education. An undergraduate studentis eligible for membership after achieving the following nationalrequirements and meeting local chapter requirements. A. Declared social work as a major.B. Achieved sophomore status.C. Completed 8 semester hours or 12 quarter hours of required social work courses.D. Achieved an overall grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).E. Achieved a 3.25 grade point average in required social work courses.F. Local chapters may establish higher eligibility requirements.
As a means of acculturation to the profession of social work,all students are encouraged to join social work professionalorganizations, as student members. For further informationand application forms, please contact your faculty advisor.

The National Association of Social Workers is a professionalorganization whose primary purpose is to help all socialworkers improve their practice in the field of helping people.
NASW's four primary functions include development of itsmembers; creation and maintenance of professional standardsfor social work practice; professional action to advancesound policies and programs; and provision of membership services.
The full-time baccalaureate student may join NASW at areduced rate. This entitles the student to voting rights,to receive the monthly NASW News and the monthly SocialWork Journal, and membership services. The nationalmembership also entitles you to membership in the localprogram units in Ohio.
